In February 2008, Cathy Horyn attended the Rick Owens "Stag" fashion show and wrote the following:Rick Owens was this afternoon: great show. The collection is more voluptuous than last season, with the familiar darkness and Owens grit. Owens gives a kind of hour-glass shape to jackets, sometimes using two or three fabrics in combination, and creating sculptural effects. The thought process seemed very top to toe, with small, square-ish caps, fins and cube-like volumes on some of the jackets, and wedge-heel boots with flaps that spill around the calf and drag on the ground.
This jacket is a runway piece that my husband gave me as a gift, and that I wore only once or twice. His tastes are more "fashion forward" than mine, alas. The jacket itself has a fascinating construction. It has a silver metallic triangle that can zip in and out. It also has "bat wings" made of black cashmere, that can zip in and out as well. The "wings" fasten to the sleeves and to the body of the coat, adding drama and fullness to an otherwise form-fitting jacket. As Horyn noted, Rick Owens was playing with volumes and turning his garments into something sculptural and visually arresting. In the first picture, I show the coat without its "wings", but in subsequent photos, the coat is shown with its wings in place. The coat is a size 42, or US size 6. I find this coat intriguing and fun, but it's not for me. Give this spectacular coat the life and love it deserves. Swoop around with your wings on, or prowl around looking ready for anything, with your wings off.  FYI - my home has neither pets nor smokers.
